PrEP – THE BEFORE PILLS

Previous preventative measures – such as condom use during sex – have not been sufficient to stop the spread of HIV and AIDS en Colombia. Here 5.500 persons are getting infected with HIV every year, most of them men who have sex with men.

PrEP, a new medical option for HIV/AIDS prevention in the form of a pill, will hopefully be available for everyone here sometime soon.

How to Get PrEP From Germany to EU + Non-EU Countries

Since the end of 2017, there are two PrEP generics (emtricitabin/­­­ tenofovir [disoproxil fumarate] – better known as Truvada®) available in Germany:

The Hexal®-PrEP is also known as blister PrEP, as it is dispensed in a special blister pack and costs around 50EUR/28 pills. The ratiopharm®-PrEP costs around 70EUR/30 pills. The original product Truvada® by Gilead is far too expensive (about 800EUR). The company Aliud Pharma® reduced the price for their Emtricitabin/­­Tenofovir­­disoproxil-AL to 70EUR/30pills – yet they do only have the approval for HIV-therapy but it works as well as PrEP.

PrEP Available At German Pharmacies!

December 2017 – New: PrEP for 70 EUR

The generic drug “Emtricitabin/Tenofovirdisoproxil-ratiopharm® 200 mg/245 mg Filmtabletten” by Ratiopharm costs 70EUR (30 pills) and can be prescribed by any doctor (also people from EU, CH and Norway).

September 2017 – New: PrEP for 50 EUR

The medication “Emtricitabin/Tenofovirdisoproxil HEXAL®” from Hexal is now available for EUR 50.05 per month at pharmacies specialized in treating HIV.

People at a greater risk of HIV infection now have additional options for effectively protecting themselves. This flyer aims to help you decide whether PrEP is the right choice for you and which form is best. It’s been specifically written for men who have sex with men (including inter, trans*, bi, cis, pan, gay, hetero, queer or other) and for all who are interested in the topic. It’s been written with the belief that everyone – who needs or wants PrEP – must have access to it as quickly as possible.
